I wanted to take time to share about my pregnancy. Number 11. I have experienced the joys of birth, sorrows and heartbreak of loss… But through the years, ups and downs, it is worth it! Each pregnancy is unique!
This pregnancy has been different as well! Number 11 and still unique! I wanted to share some of the journey I had with each in hopes that you are encouraged along your own motherhood journey!
Pregnancy #1- Firefly… No eggs! Couldn’t stand the smell or even the thought of them! Everything was new… baby gave me a hard time in labor… she was military OP until the midwife turned her! Beautiful and calm water birth! She wouldn’t cry which stressed the midwives out! We had a horrible start to breastfeeding… tears, blood, sores… discovered she had a severe tongue and lip tie which was eventually resolved with laser revision… and the same has been the case for each of our babies.
Pregnancy #2- Lost baby around 8 weeks following a stressful trip to visit our inlaws. Devastating! Baby Firecracker… here one day… gone the next…
Pregnancy #3- Firenew… Rainbow #1! Got lyme during pregnancy which caused a lot of exhaustion, depression, and bed rest! Warrior boy was born on the birth stool- Sunny side up with tons of hair (surprisingly no heartburn)!
Pregnancy #4- Lost baby around 6 weeks pregnant… Fireberry…
Pregnancy #5- Lost baby around 5 weeks pregnant… Firedrop… midwife didn’t believe I had been pregnant… but I knew… took a test the day I miscarried… faintest positive…
Pregnancy #6- Firestone… Rainbow #2! Pregnancy was tough… we had moved, had our house flooded, and were living in a neighbor’s back room. There were no midwives around so we delivered “free birth” style. Lovely waterbirth but stressful without outside support! Baby had a cord on his neck but everything went ok!
Pregnancy #7- Firebean… A stressful pregnancy full of uncertainty. Had to fire my first midwife… found a very supportive second midwife. Pregnancy itself was fairly easy… but labor came and went for almost 2 weeks! Birth was beautiful- surrounded by family and friends… baby born in caul with the tightest double nuchal cord I had ever seen!
Pregnancy #8- Firebird… Pregnancy was riddled with heartburn and stress. My belly was big and caused concern. Late Ultrasound caused medical team to change my dates to a month earlier (though I was certain of my LMP). We ended up trying to induce labor at home- unsuccessfully… scheduled with hospital for induction and WHAM! Labor immediately started… no stopping, no rest, no break! Constant contractions and baby fairly flew out an hour and 45 minutes after the first contraction… midwife didn’t make it in time… fast and furious! Oh, and though he was HUGE (9lb 2oz) He was definitely not a 42 week baby!
Pregnancy #9- Lost baby around 13 weeks pregnant… Firebrand… Ended up in the ER where we experienced severe trauma and neglect which led to hypovolemic shock, seizures, and ??? In the end, I miraculously survived but my healing journey took many months… it wasn’t just physical, but my spirit needed healing as well.
Pregnancy #10- A joyous surprise- A healing! Rainbow #3- Baby Fireflower! Pregnancy again had lots of heartburn, but resolved with my chiropractor adjusting my esophageal sphincter. Labor was again start and stop… for 3 days I had little to no sleep… But labor was smooth over all. Baby was born in the birth pool in our new home- surrounded by family and love.
Pregnancy #11- so far very unique… FireLatke (because we found out the first day of Hanukkah)… first trimester has been full of nausea and exhaustion! I have never before had such levels of exhaustion in my life! Every prior pregnancy has had a move… hopefully this will be our first to not have moving stress! We had a strong positive immediately (usually is faint for me at first) and strong symptoms immediately following implantation… the hope of everyone is that this means twins… but we shall see at our prenatal and ultrasound next week!
Well, that is a quick overview of 11 pregnancies and how they differ so far… each is a unique experience and grew me in its own way… I wonder what this pregnancy holds!
